Emily Ratajkowski: It’s Tough To Be Taken Seriously In Hollywood ‘If You’re a Sexy Actress’
Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski is opening up about the disadvantages that she has for being sexy and how it affects her trying to land serious acting roles.
The 24-year-old rose to fame after appearing in the Robin Thicke “Blurred Lines” video and since appeared in films such as “Gone Girl,” “We Are Your Friends” and “Entourage,” but has struggled to be seen as more than just a pretty face.
“It’s an interesting paradox. If you’re a sexy actress it’s hard to get serious roles,” she told Es magazine. “You get offered the same thing that they’ve seen you in. People are like sheep and they’re like ‘Oh, that’s what she does well.'”
Adding, “What’s so dumb is that women are 50 per cent of the population and they want to spend money to see movies where they’re portrayed as three-dimensional characters.”

Ratajkowski says she has more to offer than just a pretty face, but that sometimes people don’t listen to what she has to say about politics and current events, “The truth of the matter is no one wants to hear me talk about this stuff. Definitely the men who are casting films don’t want to hear it, but I just can’t not — I’m angry. It’s important to me.”
Another thing that is important to her is feminism and women being able to do whatever they please with their bodies.
“Every woman, whether or not they’re comfortable with the term feminist, probably wants to be equal to men and that is fundamentally what feminism is about,” she said. “I think that there is a stigma attached to the word, but to me it means talking about the way we look at women and how we judge women differently than how we judge men.”
Ratajkowski is currently in production for the thriller “In Darkness” and will be seen in the romance film “Cruise.”
