“I’ve been as low as you can go and as high as you can get. Boxing has really saved my life,” proclaims a highly emotional Johnny Tapia at the conclusion of the new trailer for HBO Sports documentary “Tapia.”
Executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the documentary chronicles the tormented life of the titular five-time world champion boxer. Tapia finished his talented 22-year career with a 59-5-2 record and 30 knockouts, but his success inside the ring was in direct contrast to the personal struggles he faced over the years with substance abuse and other family tragedies. The Albuquerque-born boxer passed away in 2012 from heart failure at the age of 45.
“Tapia” premires December 16 at 11PM on HBO. Watch the trailer below:
