There are many questions on the minds of “Star Wars” fans in the wake of last year’s “The Force Awakens” — What will “Episode VIII” actually be called? Who are Rey’s parents? — but there is one certainty: John Williams will once again be composing the score. The five-time Oscar winner confirmed his involvement after a performance last night, telling the crowd he’ll “begin work in a few weeks on the much-anticipated ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII‘ after seeing an early cut,” according to MassLive.

Williams has been involved with “Star Wars” since the first film was released in 1977, composing and conducting the original score for every single film in the nearly 40 years since. He won an Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA Award and three Grammys for “Star Wars” and has been nominated for many, many more since; the American Film Institute declared that the original film has “the most memorable film score of all time” in a 2005 poll of more than 500 artists, composers, musicians, historians and critics.

In addition to his work in a galaxy far, far away, Williams is noted for his longtime collaboration with Steven Spielberg, “Superman” and the first three “Harry Potter” films, among many others.  “Star Wars: Episode VIII” will be released theatrically on December 15, 2017.
