Though 2016 is far from over, the streaming service Netflix is already prepping for the new year with a diverse lineup of new shows, including an adaptation of “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” a show based on the Justin Simien film “Dear White People” and another sequel to “Wet Hot American Summer.” Today, Netflix has announced a premiere date for a new period drama entitled “Frontier,” starring Jason Momoa (“Game of Thrones”), about the North American fur trade in the 1700s and the warring factions vying for control in a ruthless game of wealth and power. Momoa stars as Declan Harp, a ruthless fur trader driven by lust and revenge. The series co-stars Landon Liboiron (“Hemlock Grove”), Alun Armstrong (“Braveheart”), Allan Hawco (“Republic of Doyle”), Jessica Matten (“Blackstone”), Shawn Doyle (“House of Cards”) and Zoe Boyle (“Downton Abbey”).

The drama was created by Peter and Rob Blackie (“Republic of Doyle”) and directed by Brad Peyton (“San Andreas”). The series is produced by Take the Shot Productions and Peyton and Fierson ASAP Entertainment, in association with Discovery and Netflix.

The six-episode first season of “Frontier” has already begun airing on Discovery Canada. All six episodes will be available on Netflix on January 20, 2017. The series has already been renewed for a second season.
