The 51st Chicago International Film Festival has announced that it will present the Emerging Artist Award to both Josh Mond and Christopher Abbott, the director and the star of the critically lauded drama “James White.” The Sundance-winning feature will screen at the festival before the award is presented to Mond and Abbott.
“James White” follows the titular New Yorker as he deals with the death of his long-absent father and the imminent passing of his terminally ill mother (played by Cynthia Nixon).
Of the news, Anthony Kaufman, programmer of the Chicago International Film Festival said, “In his first feature as a director, Josh Mond has crafted a remarkably assured dramatic film, which is made all the more visceral and moving by Christopher Abbott’s riveting performance.”
“James White” will screen on October 16 and 17, with the second screening followed by the awards ceremony and a ticketed afterparty. The film hits theaters on November 13.
