Watch: Jeffrey Tambor Says Amazon's 'Transparent' is 'About Saving Lives'

On the heels of much praise for his role in the Amazon series “Transparent” (for which he won Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at this year’s Golden Globes), Jeffrey Tambor recently received the IMDB STARmeter Award at Sundance 2015. The actor was very gracious for the honor, reminiscing on daydreaming about being an actor when he was a young boy.

Tambor, no stranger to comedy, kept his speech light at first, cracking a few jokes throughout. “My dad used to always say ‘don’t celebrate, they’ll take it away from you,'” he said. However, the actor got emotional when talking about the impact “Transparent” has had in helping the transgender community. He recalls a story of a family who told him they were bonding over the show, because their son had told them he wasn’t a boy. “That’s who we’re talking to,” he said. “This is about saving lives.”
