Timothée Chalamet fans won’t have to wait until the fall to see the young actor back on the big screen. A24 is set to release “Hot Summer Nights” in theaters and on DirecTV this summer, and the indie studio has debuted the edgy first trailer for the coming-of-age thriller. The film marks the feature debut of Elijah Bynum and co-stars “It Follows” favorite Maika Monroe and Alex Roe.

“Hot Summer Nights” is set during the summer season on Cape Cod and centers on Chalamet’s shy out-of-towner named Daniel, who gets in way over his head after he begins selling weed for the neighborhood drug dealer (Roe). Daniel sparks a romance with the drug dealer’s sister (Monroe), starting a triangle of love and betrayal.

The film will be Chalamet’s first release since earning an Oscar nomination for “Call Me By Your Name” earlier this year.” The actor is expected to be an awards contender once again with the fall release of Felix Van Groeningen’s “Beautiful Boy,” in which he plays a meth-addicted teen opposite Steve Carrell. Future roles for Chalamet include the lead in David Michôd’s Netflix epic “The King,” in which he’ll play King Henry V.

A24 will release “Hot Summer Nights” this summer. The film seems to fit nicely into the company’s growing slate of visually distinct coming-of-age stories, from “Spring Breakers” to “Lady Bird.” No specific date has been revealed. Watch the first trailer below.
