‘The Leftovers’ Season 3: Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta Announce Release Date for Final Season in Video
The long wait is nearly over. “The Leftovers” Season 3 is set to premiere in April 2017.
Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta took to Facebook to announce the month the final season would roll out, if not the exact date. Watch the video below.
Dressed from head to toe (presumably) in white, the co-creators spoke as members of the Guilty Remnant — via legal pad — to confirm what’s fans have eagerly been anticipating since a delayed release was first announced at the summer TCAs: “The Leftovers” will be taking over “Game of Thrones” slot in the spring of 2017.

“In the intervening months since we saw you last, Tom has convinced me to join the Guilty Remnant,” Lindelof said. “So before I lost the ability to communicate [verbally], I thought we’d reach out and communicate with fans directly.”
With “Game of Thrones” Season 7 delayed until the summer, HBO needed a drama to take its place in the spring. At the TCAs in July, Bloys indicated HBO would be giving the final season of Lindelof and Perrotta’s drama a big Emmys push, and an April rollout for the final eight episodes is perfectly in line with these goals. Whether awards darlings “Veep” and “Silicon Valley” will be paired with “The Leftovers” — as they have been paired with “Game of Thrones” — has yet to be announced.
In additional news, Lindsay Duncan (“Birdman,” “About Time”) has joined the cast for the final season. She will appear alongside returning players including Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Kevin Carroll, Regina King, and Scott Glenn. Duncan’s role, as well as the number of episodes she’ll appear in, are being kept secret for now.
The announcements come days after HBO released the first footage from Season 3: a half-second clip during the network’s 2017 preview. It’s short, yes, but what’s there is pure gold. Admire it below, and get excited for April.
