‘Cinema Novo’ Trailer: Eryk Rocha’s Doc Investigates The Eponymous Brazilian Film Movement
The Cannes Film Festival is just around the corner and Indiewire has an exclusive first look at the trailer for the documentary “Cinema Novo” by Eryk Rocha, that will premiere in the Cannes Classics sidebar.
The feature is a film essay that poetically investigates the eponymous Brazilian film movement, the most prominent in Latin America in the past century, through the analysis of its main auteurs: Nelson Pereira do Santos, Glauber Rocha, Leon Hirszman, Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, Ruy Guerra, Cacá Diegue, Walter Lima Jr, Paulo César Saraceni, among others.
The mostly black and white, one-minute video starts with various scenes of a person running and then transitions to a color scene with a man wailing like a baby.
“Cinema Nova” is one of nine documentaries in the classics sidebar that celebrates cinema. Other titles include “The Cinema Travelers” by Shirley Abraham and Amit Madheshiya and “Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fischer and Debbie Reynolds” by Alexis Bloom and Fisher Stevens.
