Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell have become one of the most exciting and bankable actor-director collaborations in Hollywood after the critical and commercial success of “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle,” and based on the lively new teaser for “Joy,” their Oscar-winning relationship doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

The film’s official synopsis reads: “‘Joy’ is the wild story of a family across four generations, centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise and facing a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces.”

Set to the angelic chorus of The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” the teaser puts an emphasis on Joy’s hallucinatory imagination, while foreshadowing another show-stopping performance from Lawrence. The director’s energetic camera also seems to be in top form here. Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd and Virginia Madsen co-star.

Annapurna Pictures will release “Joy” on Christmas Day.
