After finding blockbuster success for the first time as Poe Dameron in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Oscar Isaac is getting back into the drama game. According to Variety, the indie favorite is set to join the cast of Steven Spielberg‘s “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Montara.” Isaac will star opposite the previously announced Mark Rylance, who continues his blossoming career with Spielberg after “Bridge of Spies” and “The BFG.”

Adapted by Tony Kusher from the novel by David Kertzer (the screenwriter last teamed with Spielberg for “Lincoln”), “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Montara” has been on the director’s radar for quite some time. The story, set in 1858, centers around a Jewish boy in Bologna, Italy who is taken from his family and raised Christian. His family takes it upon themselves to bring their son back, though the matter is complicated by a growing conflict with the Papacy.
Isaac’s role in the film is unknown. He currently finished up shooting “Star Wars Episode VII” and the sci-fi thriller “Annihilation,” which sees him reunite with “Ex Machina” director Alex Garland. Production on “Edgardo Montara” will begin in early 2017 after Spielberg completes “Ready Player One.”
