Welcome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Brie Larson. After months of anticipation, Marvel has revealed the first official look at Brie Larson in character as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. The reveal arrives several months before Disney releases “Captain Marvel” in theaters in March.
“Captain Marvel” is set in the 1990s and follows Carol Danvers as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes after Earth is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds. Samuel L. Jackson is reprising his role as Nick Fury, while new additions to the MCU are Jude Law as Mar-Vell and Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva. Lee Pace is playing Ronan the Accuser, who hasn’t been seen in the MCU since “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
“She can’t help but be herself,” Larson tells Entertainment Weekly about the character. “She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.”
This year’s record-breaking “Avengers: Infinity War” includes a mid-credits scene in which Nick Fury contacted Captain Marvel as he was turning into dust. While “Captain Marvel” takes place years before Thanos’ snap, it’s clear Larson’s superhero is being eyed a franchise-changing addition to the MCU. Producer Kevin Fiege himself has teased big things for Larson and compares her first movie to “Terminator 2: Judgement Day.”
“Captain Marvel,” directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, opens nationwide March 8, 2019. Check out the first look below, and CLICK HERE for more first look photos.
