‘Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table’ Trailer: Iconic Restaurateur Revolutionizes New Orleans Dining
Recognized as one of the most important female restauranteurs, Ella Brennan’s life story is making its way to the big screen in “Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table.” Directed by Oscar-nominated director Leslie Iwerks, the documentary will have its world premiere at the New Orleans Film Festival on October 14, but before its grand debut, IndieWire has your first look at the doc in the trailer and poster below.
Narrated by Patricia Clarkson, the film is the behind the scenes story of Brennan, one of America’s foremost restaurateurs whose life work has cemented New Orleans as a star on the nation’s culinary map. At the age of 18 she went to work at her brother’s bar on Bourbon Street and soon because the pioneer of the modern American food movement.

The documentary also features friends and industry stars that count her as inspiration such as Daniel Boulud, Danny Meyer, Jeremiah Tower, Drew Nieporent, Leah Chase and many more. The film is produced by Iwerks and Michael E. Tang and executive produced by Debra Shriver and Karol Martesko-Fenster.
Iwerks is best known for her Oscar-nominated film “Recycled Life” and her 2007 Emmy-nominated documentary “The Pixar Story.” She’s currently filming “The Imagineering Story,” a look at the past, present and future achievements of Walt Disney’s Imagineering staff at his numerous Disney theme parks.
“Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table” will also be screened at the Mill Valley Film Festival on October 15.
