‘Everything Wrong With The Purge: Anarchy’ Challenges the Logic About a Movie Where All Crime Is Legal

If you exercised your right as an American to Purge this weekend, the latest “Everything Wrong With…” video may not before you. Cinema Sins‘ latest target is 2014’s “The Purge: Anarchy,” the second installment in writer/director James DeMonaco’s dystopian franchise about a near-future in which all crime is legal for a 12-hour period once a year.

First on the tally is the sequel’s very premise: that the annual event has somehow reduced crime rates while improving the economy. From there it’s a cavalcade of leaps in logic and narrative inconsistencies, like why it is that an anti-Purge resistance movement’s website is uncensored under an authoritarian regime and the fact that so many otherwise-defenseless people in these movies are opposed to hiding when the occasion calls for it. Since, you know, people always respond to these situations in completely rational ways.

The total tally of nitpicking “sins” is 141. Coming up with an appropriate sentence was presumably difficult, giving the “Purge” series’ sense of justice.
