Claire Foy Reveals the Most Difficult Word to Pronounce in Queen Elizabeth’s Accent on ‘The Crown’ — Watch

You probably don’t have any trouble pronouncing the word “house,” but have you ever tried saying it in the voice of Queen Elizabeth II? Claire Foy has, and it was the most difficult linguistic task she performed during her two seasons on “The Crown.” She explained why on “The Late Late Show With James Corden” last night. Watch below.

“Your Queen’s English accent is so brilliant because it’s so specific,” said Corden before asking what gave Foy the most trouble. “Weirdly, the word that came up a lot was ‘house,’” she responded. “The dialect coach came up with a way of us getting into it, as it were. And that was to say, ‘Dirty mouse. House.’” Then Method Man, who was on the show with her, successfully demonstrated the same technique.

Foy’s tenure on the Netflix series has come to an end, as the next two seasons take place further in the future. She’ll be succeeded by Olivia Colman, with Tobias Menzies taking over the role of Prince Philip for Matt Smith. Foy, who recently starred in Seven Soderbergh’s “Unsane,” has some big shoes to fill herself: She’s starring in “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” as Lisbeth Salander, a role previously played by Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara (who received an Academy Award nomination for her performance).
