Via the Hollywood Reporter comes the news that Fox 21 TV Studios and the writing-directing-producing team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller will adapt the podcast “Serial” for TV.  The insanely popular podcast, hosted by Sarah Koenig, captured the curiosity of millions of listeners with its exploration of a questionable 1999 murder.

Few details have been released, but the TV series will be scripted, and rather than follow the Adnan Syed case from “Serial’s” first season, it will track the process and production behind the popular podcast. Koenig, along with the rest of the “This American Life” team will be executive producers on the new show.

Lord and Miller are known for their notable directing work on “The Last Man on Earth,” “21 Jump Street” and “The Lego Movie.” While a television series based on the making of a podcast may seem like a strange idea to some, so did a movie made entirely out of legos (and that turned out pretty well).
