Nick Offerman Reveals How Ron Swanson Would Vote in 2016

Among the countless oddities of this election has been the issue of endorsements — whether from politicians, celebrities or, in this case, fictional characters. Nick Offerman, whose Ron Swanson is perhaps the most memorable character from “Parks and Recreation,” has answered a question he says he’s frequently asked: Which nominee would the breakfast-loving, government-loathing saxophonist cast his ballot for?

“Ron wouldn’t think much of Trump,” explains Offerman in a Twitter screenshot of a note he’s written on the subject. “First of all, he’d be very sad that a businessman entered politics. Huge step backwards. He had it made in the private sector and he blew it! Doesn’t speak well of his decision making.” He continues:

“Second, he went bankrupt 4-6 times, depending on who you believe. Ron does not like businessmen getting bailed out by taxpayers. Third, Trump disrespects women. Ron likes women. Because they are human beings and deserve to be treated with basic dignity. Fourth, his boys are fatuous suck-ups with slick hair.”

Still, Offerman says, “Ron would not like Hillary either. She is a career politician. Ron has no love of career politicians.” Even so, he “would certainly vote Hillary over Trump, if he had to choose between the two” — a decision that Leslie Knope would certainly approve of. This has been a year of semi-notable third candidates, however, and it’s possible that Ron would “write in Merle Haggard or Willie Nelson.”
