John Oliver Slams Mike Pence’s Homophobia by Writing and Selling A Children’s Book About His Gay Pet Rabbit

Oliver's "Last Week Tonight" is donating 100% of the book's proceeds to The Trevor Project and AIDS United.
John Oliver Wrote A Children's Book About Mike Pence's Gay Rabbit

John Oliver turned his attention to Vice President Mike Pence during the March 18 episode of “Last Week Tonight.” The takedown ended in the surprise announcement that Oliver and his HBO team wrote an actual children’s book about Pence’s pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo, growing up as a gay rabbit and falling in love with a male hare. Pence is outspokenly homophobic; he supports gay conversion therapy and once backed a law that would legalize discrimination against gay people.

Oliver’s book, “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo,” is written in direct opposition of Pence with its “message of tolerance and advocacy” that “explores issues of marriage equality and democracy.” The book is available to purchase right now and the show will donate 100% of the book’s proceeds to The Trevor Project and AIDS United.

The book is available as a hard copy and an audiobook via Audible. The audio book is lead by Jim Parsons and features special guests Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, John Lithgow, Jack McBrayer, and RuPaul.

The official book description reads: “‘A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo’ is a children’s audiobook that imagines the story of Marlon Bundo as he falls in love with another bunny, Wesley (played by Ferguson). The two decide to wed, only to be told by the Stink Bug in charge that same-sex marriage is not allowed. When Marlon, Wesley, and their supportive animal community realize that they can choose who is in charge of their society, they vote out the Stink Bug and the couple is married surrounded by their friends.”
