Netflix has just released a trailer for the upcoming release of “Virunga,” a documentary that premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and was acquired by the company late last month.
Directed by first-time filmmaker Orlando von Eisiedel, “Virunga” examines the preservation measures that are being implemented by a group of dedicated park rangers, a orphan gorilla caretaker and a Belgian conservationist. The film depicts their struggle to protect Virunga National Park from poachers, armed militia and rebel groups.
“Despite its non-fiction roots, ‘Virguna’ has the epic sweep of a classic good-versus-evil showdown, placing the petroleum conglomerate SOCO International in its cross-hairs as the story’s chief villain,” wrote Eric Kohn in his review during Tribeca.

The film’s trailer, which you can watch in full below, not only outlines the challenges faced by those working to protect the park, but also, at the same time, communicates a deep commitment to familiarizing us with the park’s ecosystem.
