Watch: Emotionally-Charged ‘Virunga’ Trailer Depicts Struggle to Preserve National Park in War-Torn Congo

Netflix has just released a trailer for the upcoming release of “Virunga,” a documentary that premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and was acquired by the company late last month.

Directed by first-time filmmaker Orlando von Eisiedel, “Virunga” examines the preservation measures that are being implemented by a group of dedicated park rangers, a orphan gorilla caretaker and a Belgian conservationist. The film depicts their struggle to protect Virunga National Park from poachers, armed militia and rebel groups.

“Despite its non-fiction roots, ‘Virguna’ has the epic sweep of a classic good-versus-evil showdown, placing the petroleum conglomerate SOCO International in its cross-hairs as the story’s chief villain,” wrote Eric Kohn in his review during Tribeca.
