'Game of Thrones' Star Kit Harington: Why He Lied Co-Stars About Jon Snow's Fate

Jon Snow’s resurrection in the latest “Game of Thrones” episode has been the talk of the town since Kit Harington appeared on screen taking his first breath. While many were skeptical about his character really leaving the show, many had already accepted Snow’s fate – that is until Sunday’s episode.

Harington covers this week’s Entertainment Weekly and revealed how he had to keep the secret about his return from everyone for over a year. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss told him he was eventually going to come back two weeks after the cast received the Season 5 scripts in the summer of 2014.

“At first I thought I would find it fun,” Harington explained about being sworn to secrecy. “This will be a fun game. But I had to lie to a lot of close friends and cast members and crew. The longer it went, the more I felt like I was betraying them. So I did end up letting people in, slowly.”

He worked hard to convince the “GOT” cast that he really was leaving, some of them believed him, while others didn’t.

“Sophie Turner, bless her, wrote me a really long letter about how much she loved working with me – and I still got it,” Harington said. “That made me chuckle.”

And adding, “[Liam Cunningham] told me to f— off from the start.”

It was until the cast received the scripts for Season 6 that they finally figured it out and welcomed Kit back with open arms. When asked what he wanted to tell fans and the people he deceived he stated: “Sorry. I want to say sorry for lying to everyone,” Harington expressed in the video below. “I’m glad that people were upset that he died.”
