Toronto 2012: Millennium Entertainment Books Greg Kinnear-Jennifer Connelly Drama ‘Writers’ for the U.S.
In its second acquisition of the week, Millennium Entertainment has picked up U.S. rights to debut filmmaker Josh Boone’s “Writers,” which had its world premiere Sunday at the Toronto International Film Festival. The company acquired “What Maisie Knew,” directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel, on Wednesday.
Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Lily Collins, Logan Lerman, Nat Wolff, Liana Liberato and Kristen Bell star in “Writers,” which follows an acclaimed writer and his family over the course of a tumultuous year.
Judy Cairo produced for Informant Media. Informant’s Michael A. Simpson and Eric Brenner are executive producers, along with Lisa Wilson, Myles Nestel, Patrick Dugan, Jeff Rice, Dale Johnson, Julie May, Glenn Murray and Mike Ilitch, Jr.
“Boone is truly a breakout talent who wrote an endearingly funny and deeply touching story,” said Millennium CEO Bill Lee. “This all-star cast really brought his screenplay to life.”
Millennium exec Tristen Tuckfield negotiated the deal with CAA on behalf of the filmmakers and Elsa Ramo on behalf of Informant. The Solution Entertainment Group is handing international sales.
Millennium has become increasingly active since launching in 2010. The company recently released “Rampart,” “Bernie,” “Red Lights,” “Little Birds” and “The Babymakers.” Its next release is Lee Daniels’ “The Paperboy,” which the company acquired at the Cannes Film Festival.
