A huge Cecil the Lion was projected onto the Empire State Building on Saturday as part of the “Projecting Change on the Empire State Building” initiative. Founder of the Oceanic Preservation Society and “The Cove” director Louie Psihoyos developed the initiative, aiming to raise awareness about endangered animals. Cecil, whose killing has gained international media attention, was one of 33 animals who was featured on the southern face of the Empire State Building.
Psihoyos’ initiative pairs perfectly with his latest film, “Racing Extinction.” Similar to the style of “The Cove,” the documentary follows the journey of activists, scientists and Psihoyos himself as they try to draw attention to humans’ role in the extinction of many of Earth’s species.
“Projecting Change on the Empire State Building” grabbed the attention of New Yorkers as far as 20 blocks away. The 8-minute video loop was captured in breathtaking pictures, which you can check out below.
