Donald Trump Personally Called Roseanne Barr to Congratulate Her on Massive Premiere Ratings

ABC and the cast and crew of “Roseanne” aren’t the only ones over the moon about the revival’s humungous ratings. The New York Times confirms that none other than Donald Trump called Roseanne Barr to congratulate her following the news that the revival’s debut earned 18 million viewers. Barr teased her conversation with the President on “Good Morning America.”
“It was pretty exciting, I’ll tell you that much,” Barr said. “They said, ‘Hold please for the President of the United States of America’ and that’s about the most exciting thing ever. It was very sweet of him to congratulate us.”
“We just kinda had a private conversation but we talked about a lot of things,” she continued. “He was just happy for me. I’ve known him for a lot of years and he’s done a lot of nice things for me over the years and it’s a friendly conversation about working, television and ratings.”
Barr went on to say that Trump “really understands ratings,” so he knows just how huge debuting to 18 million viewers is in today’s broadcast landscape. The industry has been buzzing about the revival’s massive ratings, with cast members like Sara Gilbert proclaiming the turnout proves “broadcast TV is not dead.”
Speaking to “GMA,” Barr theorized why the revival hit such a strong chord right out of the gate: “Conflict resolution and agreeing to disagree are important things. That’s what we need to do as a country — figure out what we don’t like and talk to each other and discuss how we’re going to get it changed or fixed. I hope [the show] opens up civil conversation between people and not just mud slinging. We need to be more civilized than that.”
The “Roseanne” revival airs Tuesday nights on ABC.
