'Suds County 2: The Boil Over' Makes Return Trip Through San Diego's Craft Breweries

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film, web series, TV pilot, what-have-you in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a project you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Suds County 2: The Boil Over

Logline: “Suds County 2: The Boil Over” explores the incredible recent growth in San Diego County’s craft breweries. The film will also take a look at how San Diego beer styles and San Diego’s brewers are influencing breweries around the nation and the world.

Elevator Pitch:
“Suds County 2: The Boil Over” is a feature-length sequel to “Suds County, USA.” Both the original and “Suds County 2” focus on the craft breweries and brewers of San Diego County, California. While our goal is to make an entertaining documentary, “Suds County 2” will also be an opportunity to document an important historical moment in San Diego’s craft beer community that will also hopefully allow future brewers to look back — at a period where the sands started to quickly shift — and hopefully be able to put the events of their time within a broader perspective.

Production Team:
Writer/Director: Sheldon Kaplan (“Suds County, USA”)
Producers: Sheldon Kaplan, Kevin Tostado (“Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story”, “Suds County, USA”)
Editor: Michael Towe
Cinematographer: Matthew Geraci

About the Film:
From Sheldon, the director: “In late 2009 when I conducted research for the original ‘Suds County, USA,’ no local brewer or industry executive I spoke to would have ever predicted that in less than seven years there would be more than 120 brewhouses in San Diego County. (in 2009, there was less than 30!) A lot has changed in a relatively short amount of time and it is this relatively rapidly shifting landscape that has lead me to believe that the time is right for a sequel, hence our plans to make ‘Suds County 2: The Boil Over.'”

Current Status: Currently fundraising on Kickstarter. If we hit our $250K goal, production will begin in June.
