You didn’t really think we’d make it out of the true-crime era without a new TV special on Charles Manson, did you? “Inside the Manson Cult: The Lost Tapes” follows an entire season of the “You Must Remember This” podcast and precedes Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in examining its notorious subject, with the dulcet tones of Liev Schreiber narrating the grisly goings on. Watch the trailer below.
“Every man judges himself,” Manson can be heard saying in the brief preview. “He knows what he is. We all know what we are. I’ve been laying up here paying for your sins for 2,000 years. How many times have I gotta pay for your sins? I’m getting tired.” If you’re not into the whole true-crime thing, you, too, may be getting tired.
The two-hour special is based on more than 100 hours of footage and looks at Spahn Ranch, where Manson and his followers lived before committing their infamous murders. Among the interviewees are Manson Family members Catherine “Gypsy” Share and Dianne “Snake” Lake, as well as Stephen Kay and FBI criminal profiler John Douglas. Manson, who died in prison at age 83 last November, was originally sentenced to death before having his sentence commuted when California briefly rescinded the death penalty.
Fox will air “Inside the Manson Cult: The Lost Tapes” on Monday, September 17.
