Project of the Day: Once Upon a Time in the Steakhouse

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

“The Porterhouse”

Tweetable Logline:

A washed up waiter from Queens has to decide whether or not to defend a young Iranian busboy from a violence-prone manager.

Elevator Pitch:

“The Porterhouse” is set in a steakhouse restaurant in the middle of an Anti-Bush Protest in New York City circa 2004.

As the nation awakens from its slumber to the nightmare of Abu Ghraib and extraordinary renditioning, a group of outcasts, a washed up waiter, an Iranian busboy, and a young protester, find themselves in a fight for their lives as the manager of The Porterhouse locks the doors of the restaurant and demands the whereabouts of a missing $10,000.

Production Team:

Director: Ben Insler
Writer/Producer/Actor: Jeffrey Delano Davis

About the Production:

“I was working in a steakhouse restaurant in New York City during the Republican National Convention Protests of 2004. It was an appalling yet fascinating time to live in New York. I was also watching a lot of westerns like ‘Deadwood,’ ‘3:10 to Yuma’ and ‘High Noon.’ After a number of drafts and readings, I forged a plot; a showdown in a New York City restaurant that mirrored the tensions of our age. ‘The Porterhouse’ was born.” — Jeffrey Delano Davis

Current Status:

Pre-production.
