Go Behind the Scenes of ‘The Revenant’ With Emmanuel Lubezki’s Gorgeous Instagram Shots (UPDATED)

After winning back to back Best Cinematography Oscars for “Gravity” and “Birdman,” acclaimed DP Emmanuel Lubezki might be set for a rare hat trick if the visually stunning trailers and promotional images for “The Revenant” are any indication of his work on the project. The adventure drama, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, reunites Lubezki with “Birdman” director Alejandro G. Iñárritu after their numerous awards victories last year, and it’s safe to say they are back in the race this year.

DiCaprio stars as American explorer Hugh Glass, who is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own team, led by Hardy’s John Fitzgerald. Injured but alive, Glass embarks through the wilderness and endures a harsh winter all in the pursuit of vengeance and redemption.

While distributor 20th Century Fox has yet to release any behind-the-scenes clips, Lubezki has been documenting the production of the ambitious drama on his Instagram account @chivexp. Check out some of the gorgeous stills below, which include landscape shots and striking close-ups of some of the film’s extras.

“The Revenant” opens in select theaters on Christmas and nationwide January 8.
