“In America we’re told the fact that you don’t have money shouldn’t affect how much justice you can get. This show questions whether that’s true,” says Jonathan Shapiro, co-creator of “Goliath,” in a new featurette released by Amazon.
The Billy Bob Thornton-starring drama is the ultimate David vs. Goliath battle but fought in the 21st century American legal system. The series follows a once powerful lawyer, Billy McBride (Thornton), as he reluctantly agrees to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against the biggest client of the massive law firm he helped create. As he seeks redemption, he discovers that the scales of justice have never been more heavily weighed toward the rich and powerful. William Hurt, Olivia Thirlby and Maria Bello co-star.
“I’ve always been, frankly, creeped out by most lawyers,” says Thornton in the clip. “It’s funny when you play one.”
Co-creator and writer David E. Kelley adds that the series is “a cauldron of very complicated people, corrupted by their ambition, their insecurities, [and] their thirst for power.”
The clip also includes interviews with other cast members and director David Semel, as well as some behind the scenes footage and moments from the show. Check out the video below.
TV titan Kelley is best known as the writer of some of the biggest TV shows including “Ally McBeal,” “Boston Legal” and “The Practice.” Thornton was recently seen in “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” and will next be seen in “Bad Santa 2,” out November 23.
“Goliath” premieres October 14 on Amazon.
