Blade Runner 2″ may be over a year away from hitting theaters, but that’s not stopping anticipation from already hitting sky high levels. As part of their major Comic-Con preview, Entertainment Weekly has teamed up with director Denis Villeneuve to reveal two dazzling concept art images from the sequel, and boy do they not disappoint. The director also confirms that the film will take place in Los Angeles, though it will be set several decades after the original.

“The climate has gone berserk — the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” Villeneuve tells EW. One of the concept art images depicts a ginormous machine that is designed to destroy snow. The second image is molded straight from the visionary mind of Ridley Scott, as it depicts the dystopian Los Angeles skyline, complete with hologram billboards and dark skyscrapers. Nearly all of the plot details behind the film are being kept under wraps. The screenplay is by Fancher and Michael Green, and the sequel will reunite Villeneuve with his “Sicario” cinematographer Roger Deakins. At the very least, “Blade Runner 2” is going to look out-of-this-world stunning. The duo should have no problem capturing the visual feast that’s teased in these images. As for the cast, Harrison Ford is set to return opposite Ryan Gosling, Mackenzie Davis, Robin Wright and Dave Bautista.

Production on the sequel is set to begin this year, and you can also expect to see Villeneuve in the awards season conversation this fall with his Amy Adams-starring science-fiction drama “Arrival.” “Blade Runner 2” is scheduled for October 6, 2017.
