Ansel Elgort

In news that Vin Diesel is sure to have a strong opinion about, “The Fault in Our Stars” star Ansel Elgort is in negotiations to star in the long-awaited adaptation of everyone’s favorite tabletop role-playing game. Warner Bros. is developing “Dungeons & Dragons,” which is set to be directed by “Goosebumps” helmer Rob Letterman, in an attempt to level-up its tentpole stats.

Per Deadline, who first reported the news, WB is on a mystical quest for profitable franchises — a search that presumably won’t feature as many warlocks or stat points as its source material. Diesel, a longtime fan of the RPG, is said to be interested in a role in the film; one assumes that screenwriter David Leslie Johnson (“The Conjuring 2”) will be able to write one for the “Fast and the Furious” and “Riddick” star (assuming Diesel hasn’t already done so himself)

Elgort is no stranger to genre fare himself, having appeared in both the “Divergent” series and the “Carrie” remake.
