Creative Arts Emmys 2016: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Make History by Sharing Guest Comedy Actress Honors
Well, isn’t that funny.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler‘s comedic powers combined to win the Guest Actress in a Comedy Series award at the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday. The “Sisters” actresses proved that they were sisters in spirit when they had initially submitted their names jointly for consideration, and were not only accepted, but were eventually honored for their “Saturday Night Live” co-hosting duties.

This is a first for the Emmys, considering more than one person for a single acting category, and we can’t help but wonder if this will open the floodgates for other duos (or more) to try and be considered for a single acting achievement. It does say something about symbiosis, does it not?
But that’s not the end of the craziness in the guest categories. If you recall, Peter Scolari was not one among those named when the Guest Comedy Actor nominations were first announced in July. He replaced nominee Peter MacNicol, however, when it was determined that the “Veep” actor had appeared in more than 50 percent of the show’s 10 episodes, disqualifying him as a “guest” in the series.
Enter Scolari to fill that spot, and in the best consolation prize ever, he won Saturday for playing Lena Dunham’s dad Tad on “Girls.”
Less groundbreaking but no less deserving were the other winners in the guest categories. Hank Azaria snagged his Guest Actor in a Drama Emmy for his role on “Ray Donovan,” and Margo Martindale snagged honors for her stint on “The Americans.”

While Martindale’s win was perhaps the least surprising of them all, since she’s a frequent nominee and winner, we at IndieWire are hoping this contiues a trend for “The Americans,” which finally, finally earned nods for Best Drama and its lead actors after three years of snubbery. The actress said it best herself while accepting the award: “Let this be the Year of ‘The Americans.'”
