Fresh off the news that it will screen at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, Tom McCarthy‘s “Spotlight” has received a debut trailer touting its star-studded ensemble and powerful subject matter. Looking to rebound after the critical bashing of “The Cobbler” earlier this year, writer-director McCarthy (“The Station Agent,” “Win Win”) looks to be in good hands with a post-“Birdman” Michael Keaton starring opposite Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, Brian d’Arcy James and Billy Crudup.

The official synopsis reads: “‘Spotlight’ tells the riveting true story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation that would rock the city and cause a crisis in one of the world’s oldest and most trusted institutions. When the newspaper’s tenacious ‘Spotlight’ team of reporters delve into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church, their year-long investigation uncovers a decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal, and government establishment, touching off a wave of revelations around the world.”

The drama opens in theaters on November 6.
