WGA Leaders Urge NEA Reconsider PBS Funding Cuts

Bad news for Cookie Monster: “C” is for cuts!

The National Endowment for the Arts will cut funding for public television by $1 million later this month. Unsurprisingly, this announcement was followed by one from Writer’s Guild of America East Executive Director Lowell Peterson and President Michael Winship, who released a brief statement this morning urging the NEA to change their position:

“Public television programs such as American Masters offer throughful, well-researched insights into American culture and the arts. At a time of decreased funding from corporations and chartiable trusts, and with federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting always at risk, we hope that the NEA will maintain its historical commitment to these vital shows.”

WGAE members work on a number of the shows which would be affected.
