Guillermo del Toro‘s “Pan’s Labyrinth” first premiered in 2006 to widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. Set in Spain five years after the Spanish Civil War, the film follows a young girl (Ivana Baquero) who escapes from her sadistic, fascist stepfather (Sergi López) into a fantasy world where she comes to believe that she’s the reincarnation of an underworld princess. The film had its world premiere at Cannes where it received a 22-minute standing ovation. It later went on to win three Oscars, including Best Cinematography. Now according to del Toro himself, the film will receive a Criterion release this fall, and he’s already shared the cover art, designed by Becky Cloonan, on Twitter. Check out the tweet in question below.
