‘Game of Thrones’ Creators Record ‘Rick and Morty’ Live Commentary, Hail ‘Pickle Rick’ as ‘the Best Writing of 2017’ — Listen

The worlds of “Game of Thrones” and “Rick and Morty” have finally collided. HBO showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have long been vocal proponents of the Adult Swim animated series, hailing it as “one of the funniest, smartest things ever put on TV” in past interviews, and now the duo are featured on the upcoming “Rick and Morty” season 3 Blu-ray.

Benioff and Weiss recorded audio commentary for the instant-classic season 3 episode “Pickle Rick.” Entertainment Weekly has debuted a sneak peek of their episode analysis, and it finds the two declaring a pair of Rick’s monologues from the episode to be “the best writing of 2017.” The showrunners love “Pickle Rick” and its crazy action scenes so much they joke, “The last episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ should be a live-action version of Pickle Rick.”

“Rick and Morty” wrapped up its 10-epidose third season last October, and Adult Swim has still not announced a fourth season. Benioff and Weiss are currently filming the final season of “Thrones,” which won’t debut on HBO until 2019.
