“Wild Canaries” follows Barri and Noah, two Brooklynites caught up in a murder mystery for which they are woefully unprepared. One particularly funny moment from the trailer creates comedy from an entirely unfussy, low-tech source: a neck brace and a car seat.

The film may be set in the present day, but its tone and music clearly harken back to the hilarious Hollywood who-dunnits of old. Written by, directed by and starring Lawrence Michael Levine (“Gabi On The Roof In July”), the film also features Sophia Takal, Alia Shawkat, Jason Ritter and Kevin Corrigan.

“Wild Canaries” opens in limited release on February 25. Watch the trailer below:
