Exclusive: Minimalist ‘Don’t Blink’ Poster Remembers Robert Frank’s Career in Photographs

Robert Frank, one of the most important living photographers, now has a record of his own life in the form of the documentary “Don’t Blink: Robert Frank,” directed by his long-time editor, Laura Israel.
Frank rose to fame with the book “The Americans,” a candid outsider’s observation of American life that won him comparisons to Alexis de Tocqueville. The photographer also built up 23 directing credits over the course of his career, including three features.
The poster for “Don’t Blink” is a minimalist representation of the director’s work, featuring black and white photographs taped up against a blank wall. The highlights of red tape, the photographer’s intense stare in the middle photographs and the unevenness of the composition suggests an intensity and frankness to both the director and his work.
Check out an exclusive look at the poster above. The film premiered on October 4 at NYFF with Frank in attendance, and it will screen again on October 6.
