Television is a writer’s medium, so it follows that in this proclaimed golden age of TV they’re be the ones to highlight. Which is the premise of “The Writers’ Room,” a new Sundance Channel series announced today and co-presented by Entertainment Weekly. The show will run for six half-hour episodes and will venture into the writers’ rooms of major cable dramas and acclaimed network sitcoms.

“We know that much of today’s best entertainment is on television, but Sundance Channel and Entertainment Weekly want to know — who, what, when, where and why?!” said Sarah Barnett, Sundance Channel’s General Manager. “Social media has given us a lot of information about what our audience is craving — and we are listening. They want insider knowledge and a deeper perspective — this show will deliver that.”

“Television is today’s most exciting medium, and writers are its heart and soul,” added EW editor Jess Cagle. “We’re looking forward to giving the Sundance Channel viewers and the EW audience an all-access pass to see how these brilliant minds create great characters and addictive stories.”

“The Writers’ Room” will have a roundtable talk show format and offers an angle that, in this geekily process-oriented era, sounds very timely. The series will premiere in the second half of 2013, and RelativityREAL will produce it with Tom Forman serving as executive producer, and Marco Bresaz executive producing for Sundance Channel.
