Wreck-It Ralph
"Wreck-It Ralph"
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Disney‘s animated comedy “Wreck-It Ralph” hit theaters in November 2012, opening to general acclaim and turning in the highest opening weekend ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film at the time of its release. It was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

Now, Disney has announced that it plans to release a sequel to the film in 2018.

The team from the original film will return for the follow-up, including director Rich Moore (“Zootopia,” “The Simpsons”) and producer Clark Spencer (“Zootopia,” “Bolt”). Original screenwriter Phil Johnston (“Zootopia”) will also return to write the sequel as well as co-direct the film with Moore. John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman return as Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz, the girl with the game-winning glitch.

Set in an arcade where characters travel between games during their off-hours, the film follows Ralph (Reilly), the main villain in the arcade game “Fix-It Felix, Jr.,” who expresses a desire to stop being an antagonist and become a hero. When their game is under threat of being unplugged, Ralph must pony up to save the day and prove to the world that he can be more than a villain. The film co-starred Jack McBrayer (“30 Rock”), Jane Lynch (“Party Down”), Alan Tudyk (“Firefly”), Mindy Kaling (“The Mindy Project”), Joe Lo Truglio (“The State”), Ed O’Neill (“Married… with Children”), and more.

The currently-untitled “Wreck-It Ralph” sequel will hit theaters on March 9, 2018. Check out today’s  video announcement about the sequel with Moore and Reilly.
