Joe Carnahan to Write Film Version of Playstation’s ‘Uncharted’ Series
The top-selling Playstation video game series “Uncharted” is set to become Sony’s next big screen adaptation. Per Variety, “Smokin’ Aces” helmer Joe Carnahan has been tapped to pen the script for the action-adventure flick.
Unfortunately, he will not be able to direct the film due to scheduling conflicts, telling the site, “In a perfect world I would love to do both, but right now, I’m only on board to write the script.”

The third-person shooter game, developed by Naughty Dog, follows treasure hunter Nathan “Nate” Drake as he travels around the world to uncover various historical mysteries. For Carnahan, writing the adaptation is a dream come true.
“Archaeology today is in itself an antiquity, but that world has always fascinated me. Especially when you go to a museum today and wonder how a piece got there to begin with,” he told Variety. “Plus, the property itself is so popular that it was hard to turn down an opportunity to work on it.”

The film will be a co-production between Arad and Atlas Entertainment Production. Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad will produce, with Sony creative executive Jonathan Kadin overseeing the project.
Upon announcing his involvement with the film, Carnahan tweeted that Nathan Drake fans can “breathe easy.”

Carnahan will next we directing “Bad Boys 3” with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Production is set to begin early next year after Smith wraps up David Ayer’s “Bright.” The next installment in the “Bad Boys” franchise is scheduled to be released June 2, 2017.
