Neill Blomkamp Short Films Imagine Grandiose Trumpian Motorcade and Air Force One
In the days since Donald Trump‘s election victory, civilians and artists alike have tried to grapple with the situation in many different ways. Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp has channelled his frustration into art by posting two seconds-long short films that mock Trump’s grandiosity and narcissism. The first film features Trump’s motorcade decked out in gold on its way to Washington D.C. The second film features a souped-up Air Force One complete with guns attached to its front. Blomkamp first rose to fame with his debut film “District 9,” about an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth who suddenly finds a kindred spirit in a government agent. The film garnered widespread positive reviews and received four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. His next film “Elysium” starred Matt Damon and followed a ravaged Earth divided between a luxurious space habitat and the desolate, devastation below. The film received mixed reviews but was a box office success, grossing $286 million against a $115 million budget. His most recent film “Chappie” follow an artificially intelligent law enforcement robot that’s captured by gangsters, played by rave rap duo Die Antwoord. Though Blomkamp is attached to the “Alien” franchise, his film has remained in limbo since last year. He recently directed a short film for BMW entitled “The Escape” starring Clive Owen, Dakota Fanning, Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga. Watch it on the BMWFilms website.
