Bryan Cranston Compares Darkness Of New ‘Power Rangers’ To ‘The Dark Knight’
Actor Bryan Cranston keeps a busy schedule these days. He’s already appeared in two films so far this year, “Kung Fu Panda 3” and “Get a Job,” and he’s set to co-star in four more this year. But come next year, Cranston will appear in the new “Power Rangers” reboot as Zordon, the all-powerful mentor for the Power Rangers. In an interview with The Huffington Post, Cranston described his initial reticence to take on the role, because the TV series was “kind of farcical and silly and ‘pow’ and ‘zow’ — weird movements and things like that,” but he changed his mind when he read the script.

“This is as different a reimagining as the ‘Batman’ television series as it became the ‘Batman’ movie series,” Cranston continues. “You can’t compare those two, and nor can you compare this movie version of the ‘Power Rangers’ to that television series. It’s unrecognizable for the most part. There are tenets of the folklore that you hold onto for sure, but the inspiration is different, and the sensibility of it, and the approach to the film making is completely different.”
Though he admits that the tone of the “Power Rangers” movie might not be as dark as “The Dark Knight,” given that there are mostly teenagers in the former, it’s still a more mature reimagining of the campy TV series.
After years of guest spots on TV shows, Cranston broke through to the mainstream in his starring role as Hal on the FOX sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle,” and then later the role of Walter White on the AMC drama “Breaking Bad,” for which he won over five Emmys for his performance. He was also recently nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the Jay Roach film “Trumbo.”
Cranston’s new film “The Infiltrator,” about a U.S. customs special agent who took down Pablo Escobar’s empire, opens in theaters on July 13th.
