Last month, we posted excerpts from the hour-long discussion at 92Y with “Boyhood” director Richard Linklater and the film’s breakout star, Ellar Coltrane. Now, we’re pleased to share the full discussion.

Although a fictional narrative, “Boyhood” is shot over the course of 12 years, documenting the real-life physical and psychological maturation process of the actors — particularly the children.

“It’s a fictional character, it’s not them,” Linklater said during the interview. “Yet by the end of the film it is sort of them.”
