Nicolas Winding Refn‘s violent, candy-coated fantasias aren’t to everyone’s liking, but the Cannes Film Festival certainly seems to enjoy them: “Drive,” “Only God Forgives” and the upcoming “Neon Demon” have all premiered on the Croisette, with “Drive” winning the Danish auteur Best Director in 2011. Ahead of “The Neon Demon’s” first screening in a few weeks, the movie has premiered a new poster (below) tied to the French festival.
Inspired by the Italian giallo genre, the film stars Elle Fanning as an aspiring model in Los Angeles who finds that the industry is even more cutthroat than conventional wisdom would have her believe. “I decided that I’d made enough films about violent men,” Refn has said, “and I wanted to do a film with only women in the film.”
