Martin Scorsese Talks Direct George Washington Biopic 'The General'

Director Martin Scorsese always has a full plate filled with creative projects in various stages of development and completion. His upcoming film “Silence,” about two Jesuit priests who face violent persecution after they travel to Japan to spread the gospel, is currently in post-production and slated to be released sometime this year. He co-created, executive produced, and directed the pilot episode of HBO’s new series “Vinyl,” which just concluded its first season. Now, the legendary director is in talks to direct “The General,” a George Washington biopic that focuses on his time as a general during the Revolutionary War when he had to lead a dying army to safety.

Written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (“Exodus: Gods and Kings”), “The General” was previously attached to director Darren Aronofsky back in 2012 but he eventually left the project, and now it seems like Scorsese may grab it. This would be in addition to the numerous projects attached to him, including “The Irishman,” which would reunite him with long-time collaborator Robert DeNiro, and an adaptation of “The Devil In The White City,” starring current collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s also producing Asif Kapadia’s “Silver Ghost,” a biopic that traces the story of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce who founding the iconic Rolls Royce company.
