Sherlock Beneditch Cumberbatch
BBC

Three years since its last episode aired, “Sherlock” finally returns to television on New Year’s Day. The beloved BBC series starring Benedict Cumberbatch as detective Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson has just released a new trailer for Season 4, which features Holmes grappling with his inner demons.

“The roads we walk have demons beneath and yours have been waiting for a very long time,” says a voiceover at the beginning of the 40-second clip.

The video features cuts of the returning cast, as well as introduces fans to this season’s new villain Culverton Smith (Toby Jones,) who toys with Holmes in unexpected ways.

Each season is composed of three 90-minute episodes, with the first episode of Season 4, “The Six Thatchers,” loosely based on the short story “The Adventure of the Six Napoleons.”
