The ‘Sister Act’ Cast Reunites to Sing ‘I Will Follow Him,’ Stirring Up All of Your Latent ’90s Nostalgia — Watch
Older Millennials are typically hesitant to claim the much-maligned label, but slap some “Sister Act” on the TV and you’ll soon see who was born after 1982. One look at Whoopi Goldberg in that nun’s habit, and they won’t be able to stop from singing, “Oh Happy Day.” It’s been 25 years since the comedy first debuted, and Goldberg used her post on “The View” to reunite members of the original cast for a rousing version of “I Will Follow Him.”
Goldberg was joined by supporting players Kathy Najimy and Wendy Makkena, as well as Sheri Izzard, Darlene Koldenhoven, Beth Fowler (of “Orange is The New Black” renown), Andrea Robinson, and Prudence Holmes. The cast was backed up by a few extra choir members to round out the harmonies, which might not have been a bad idea judging from how some of their voices have aged. One thing that hasn’t flagged is their enthusiasm, as the sisters bop excitedly to the jazzed up version of the 1963 song, originally recorded by Little Peggy March. “Hairspray” composer Marc Shaiman accompanies the group on the keys, using the original arrangement of the song from the 1992 movie.
Written by the playwright Paul Rudnick and directed by Emile Ardolino, “Sister Act” starred Goldberg as a lounge singer named Deloris Van Cartier who must enroll in the witness protection program as a nun after witnessing a murder executed by her mobster boyfriend, played by Harvey Keitel.
