Could a “Downton Abbey” movie starring Maggie Smith really be in the works?

Smith won an Emmy for her role on the show on Sunday and has previously stated that her character Violet would be too old to appear in a film version of the show, but co-star Michael Fox recently implied that Smith was signed up for a big screen adaptation, the Guardian reports.

“The film without her would still be good with all the other actors, but it puts a stamp of quality with her in it,” Fox told Mail Online at a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) event in Los Angeles over the weekend. “Downton Abbey” creator and writer Julian Fellowes expressed his enthusiasm for the project at the same event.

“I think it will be fun to get everyone together and move it to a larger scale because you have got more money to spend,” Fellowes said. He reiterated his confidence in the project Monday speaking to “Good Morning Britain.” “As far as I am concerned, I am completely up for it. Most of the cast are up for it,” he said.

Smith was the butt of a joke at the Emmys when host Jimmy Kimmel said there was a new rule at the awards show stating that winners must be present to accept their award. “It’s called the Maggie Smith rule,” Kimmel said. “She’s been nominated for the Emmy nine times, she’s won the Emmy three times. How many times do you think she’s shown up to get the Emmy? That’s right, no times.” After Smith won for the fourth time, Kimmel said her award would be waiting for her in the lost and found.

Smith responded on Monday saying, “If Mr Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will  try and be on the next flight. Love Old Maggie.”
