Following a growing trend to draw subscribers to their pay cable services by giving away early episodes, HBO has offered up its premiere of “The Leftovers” online for any viewer old enough to pass the age gate.
The pilot episode debuted last night on HBO, and so far has been met with mixed reviews. We at Indiewire were pretty taken by it, though, calling the episodes directed by Peter Berg (“Lone Survivor,” “Friday Night Lights”) “a dreary yet captivating, troubling but strangely hopeful two hours of television.”
Judge for yourself after viewing the 75-minute premiere episode below (and note that the link will be live until July 6th when Yahoo’s free streaming offering will end.)
