Hot off his Best Actor Emmy win for his role in “Mr. Robot,” Rami Malek has lined up his next project. Per Deadline, the actor will be portraying Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in the film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” with Bryan Singer set to direct.

Written by Anthony McCarten (“The Theory of Everything”), the movie will focus on the band and its iconic lead singer.

The film has been in development at 20th Century Fox and New Regency for about eight years, and is now on fast track to be made with original producer Graham King and his GK Films banner. King and Jim Beach will produce, with Denis O’Sullivan as executive producer. Original Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor will serve as music producers. The project is expected to begin shooting early next year.
